What we ask of you.

This is a serious endurance event. Read this carefully — and only sign up if you can honestly commit to every point.

Eligibility

  • You are 18 or over on the start date.
  • You hold a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the expedition.
  • You can obtain a Uganda tourist visa from your country of residence.
  • You have no current medical condition that prevents sustained moderate exercise. If unsure, speak to your GP — see also our Health Disclaimer.

Fitness expectations

  • You can comfortably walk 25km in a single day on mixed terrain before departure.
  • You commit to a training plan to get event ready, we will check in with how this is going a month before
  • You complete at least one back-to-back training weekend (20km + 20km) within 3 months of the start date.
  • You attend the mandatory pre-expedition safety briefing one month before departure, covering self-care in tropical conditions and how to stay in top condition throughout the walk.

Financial commitment

  • A non-refundable £350 sign-up fee, paid at registration. This helps to cover permits, risk and safety assessments, support vehicles, medics, safety, bus hire and final meal. 100% of post expedition costs go to IJM and 100% of your fundraising goes to IJM to stop human trafficking, domestic violence and slavery.
  • A minimum personal fundraising target of £2,500 for IJM, raised ahead of the expedition.
  • All flights, visas, vaccinations, insurance and personal kit are paid by you.

Travel & health admin

  • Up-to-date routine vaccinations plus Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A, Typhoid and Tetanus.
  • A prescription for anti-malarial medication appropriate for Uganda.
  • Comprehensive travel and medical insurance that explicitly covers multi-day trekking and emergency repatriation- this will need to be submitted before departure.
  • Completed health disclaimer and emergency contact details at sign-up.

Conduct on expedition

  • Follow the safety briefings and the guidance of stewards, medics, and the Guinness adjudicator without exception.
  • Respect local communities, customs and the environment — leave no trace at every campsite.
  • Withdraw from the daily stage if instructed by a medic, without dispute.
